mimiTENS is an independent design brand that came to be when its owner, Anna-Maria Mountfort, set out to make kids the mittens of her dreams. mimiTENS is a made up word intended to sound like ‘mes mitaines’ which means ‘my mittens’ in French. While mimiTENS began making mittens, it has grown to make more children’s accessories that respond to the needs of parents and the rigours of everyday life.
Minimodel Gallery Inc. started with a list of the very best children’s brands which are hard to find in the colorful city of Toronto and are affordable to parents. That list is now their online shop which offers charming, top quality wardrobes that are fun, stylish, practical and an inspiration to every child (and their grown-ups).
Present Day Gifts
Present Day was created by Sophia Pierro, a set decorator for television and film in Toronto. While seeking out pieces for the films she was working on, Sophia kept finding unique and beautiful local goods made by highly skilled craftspeople and artisans in her city. Her desire to continuously create something beautiful and cohesive out of many small elements lead her to build Present Day – Toronto’s first curated and customizable gift box service – with a modern edge and a strong focus on locally made goods.
Printed Matter Company
Printed Matter incorporates colour and art into beautiful hand-drawn designs that celebrate life’s moments through correspondence. With an array of colourful notecards, invitations, notepads, stickers and stamps, their original designs are created in collaboration with local artists and loads of love.
Saudade is a lifestyle store that celebrates Portuguese design and artisanal tradition in the city’s west end. They cultivate an inspired selection of imported goods including handcrafted home accessories and ceramics from Casa Cubista created by Toronto interior design star Arren Williams.
Tarnished Chivalry takes root in the historical custom of the Gorget, a leather collar worn by knights that provided protection for the throat and from the cold. Their vision is to modernize the Gorget and insure its place in the wardrobes of modern queens. They have chosen to stay true to its leather origins while pushing the boundaries of modern design and finishes.
