Before you scoff/shriek/roll-your-eyes at wearing a skirt in winter, that may be because you don’t have the right one. While it’s natural to want to stay warm during the colder months, I’m here to let you know that if pants were your mainstay all winter-long, you’d sorely be missing out on some beautiful jupes.
For example, fashion designers such as Fendi, Balenciaga and Vera Wang showed skirts with gorgeous tiers, loads of lace, pretty folds (especially knife-pleated versions), maxi length (with slits) and luxe velvet, all with a dressed-up, bohemian vibe. So why not mix it up this season and usher in a winter skirt, especially when they’re so darn pretty? Here are a few of my faves.
WOOLY & WARM SKIRTS
Let’s be real, if we’re sporting skirts in the winter they have to be warm. Look for form-fitting versions in wool, tweed, merino and cashmere while hitting just below the knee.
VELVET JUPES
You can’t go wrong with rich velvet in the winter. Why not choose one with a burnt-out texture, pleats and a bit of flare in a classic mid-calf length.
LACE AND PLEATED SKIRTS
Ok, these may not be the most practical, but you deserve at least one fashion moment this winter. Pair a style that grazes just above or below the knee with warm wool tights, and an oversized coat, sweater or jacket.
