BEACHY ESSENTIALS “The retro look of these Salvatore Ferragamo shades is very on trend, but for me the best part is that it’s a style that actually fits the bridge of my Asian nose! I also finished Emma Straub’s Modern Lovers a few weeks ago at the cottage; not the best thing I’ve read this summer but I would still recommend it as an entertaining beach read that addresses themes of aging and friendship amongst a group of friends in a brownstone in Brooklyn.”

SIMPLE BEAUTY “I definitely wear less makeup in the summer, but a good moisturizer and non-greasy sunscreen are non-negotiables now that I’m in my 30s. I particularly love Dermalogica’s Skin Defense Booster with SPF50, which I blend with a CC cream and apply daily instead of wearing foundation.”

BAG LADY “This minimalist mini tote from Canadian label m0851 has travelled with me everywhere from Iceland to the cottage to work this summer. The size is simply perfect—it’s big enough to fit sundry baby items and an iPad, but not so large that I start resenting how much it weighs once I’ve stuffed it to the brim—and the leather has aged surprisingly well even with heavy use.” (see a similar one here)

BOLD MOVES “This colourful Comme des Garçons t-shirt, which I picked up at their sample sale in New York a few months ago, has become a favourite piece this season. I like the boxy shape and graphic, vaguely athletic pattern, and the fact that it’s wrinkle resistant and machine washable makes it super easy to wear. “

MINI-ME STYLE Before my daughter Caroline was born two years ago, I remember stocking up on mostly greige, gender-neutral clothes because I didn’t want her to wear any of the hot pink, frills and bows that seem to dominate the “girls” section at some children’s wear stores. Now, I find myself relaxing the rules a little, because a pretty printed-cotton dress (this one is from Gap Kids) does look pretty adorable in the summertime!

TWIST ON THE CLASSIC LBD “I’m obsessed with this boxy Marni tunic I just bought, on sale, from Saks Fifth Avenue. On me, it’s long enough to work as a dress, but I like how the graduated hem also makes it a perfect layering piece that could work year-round.”

FLATS, FOREVER “I bought these Marni sandals on sale from Net-A-Porter in midst of winter, which turned out to be a brilliant investment. They’re quite comfortable, and the fun texture and oversized embellishment instantly dress up any outfit; I’ve worn them with a floral dress to a party, and with kick flare jeans to a photoshoot.”
