We’re here again with another instalment of our Snapshots series, where we ask moms to send us a collection of their seasonal must-haves and favourite mementos.
This week we’re featuring Truc Nguyen, a stylist who has worked at Vogue Living, Teen Vogue, and Flare as their Senior Style and Market Editor. Today, Truc is mom to two-year-old Caroline and a freelance fashion editor and stylist who lends her expert know-how to online pubs like refinery29 (we especially love her story on the best white T’s that aren’t see-through—so brilliant, right?).
As a fashion insider, there’s always pressure to look good. And while there are new trends every season, Truc sticks to what she calls classic styles but with a preference for sculptural silhouettes and asymmetric, quirky design details.
On being a fashion insider “I’ve been pretty lucky to have received some great gifts and attended some incredible industry sample sales over the years, but the one ‘it’ item that I still don’t have is a quilted leather Chanel flap bag. I just can’t justify the price tag…but I can’t help wanting to own such a timeless piece, either.”
Fashionista VS Mom “My style has remained fairly constant since becoming a mother, except now I’ve pretty much retired all of my towering platform shoes and stiletto heels. That said, I’ll switch out the majority of my shoes and handbags seasonally and I usually wear the same jewellery year-round: my gold knuckle rings, scissor cuff from Jennifer Fisher (get a similar one here), and Hermès leather bracelet are pieces I’ll reliably wear every few weeks no matter the weather.”
On beauty “I’m a minimalist when it comes to makeup. During the day I only wear sunscreen, BB cream, lip balm and eyeliner. For date night or evenings with friends, I might add some neutral eyeshadow in brown or gray tones, a Stila lip glaze, and a spritz of Maison Margiela’s REPLICA Flower Market eau de toilette.”
