With over 30 years of experience, makeup artist Diana Carreiro has earned some major beauty cred, working on campaigns for Joe Fresh and Holt Renfrew. Known in the business for maintaining a 99.9% vegan and cruelty-free beauty kit (she abhors animal-testing of any kind!), Diana proves that you can be socially and environmentally responsible while making yourself—or in her case, other people—look fabulous. On a personal note Love, Emoem hearts her candid opinions on of-the-moment beauty trends. Take her response to facial contouring: ‘Real women don’t want to look like a Kardashian—much less have 20 minutes to watch a video on how to contour like one.” Di—we couldn’t agree more. Here, she shares with us her game-changing must-haves that she never leaves home without.
1. FACE atelier Ultra Foundation
Introduced to it by fellow makeup artist and BFF, Sheri Stroh, this Canadian-made foundation has been in Diana’s kit for over 10 years (trust us—this is pretty impressive!) . ““This delivers ‘second-skin’ coverage, goes on smoothly, and doesn’t catch in dry areas and fine lines. It even has a built-in primer, which allows the foundation to set, minus the use of powder.”
Perfect for green-beauty aficionados, this reusable cloth (remember to wash before every use) removes makeup and cleanses the face without the need for any other cleansing product. Just wet with warm water and massage. “This ultra-soft cloth has changed my life. There’s really nothing else like it that works this good. It even removes waterproof makeup, and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight like some cleansers do. Just clean by tossing it in the washing machine and dryer—I usually have three in rotation.”
3. Oribé Dry Texturizing Spray
Despite it’s steep price tag, Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray is a cult-classic for good reason. It refreshes hair by absorbing oil at the roots, and delivers loads of natural-looking volume. “I call this my back-comb in a can. The invisible formula adds texture and hold without a powdery or sticky residue. I love using it to create that sultry, bed-head look.”
4. Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer with Calming Green Tea Oil
Yep. This in-shower moisturizer made this pro’s must-have list. Simply apply it to wet skin after bathing/showering, then towel off. It adds moisture, doesn’t leave a sticky residue and has a pleasant, fresh scent. “This drugstore find has revolutionized my personal skin care routine. It’s so easy to use and is a major time saver. There’s no need to even rinse it off.”
5. Germs Away Mist by Clinical Luxury
This Canadian company uses all-natural, organic and bio-available (when possible) ingredients. You can spritz the non-toxic mist to help sanitize yoga mats and cell phones, but it’s also the bomb for refreshing seasonal clothes and shoes. The all-natural boast means that moms can use it on baby change pads, diaper pails and toys. “Creator Graydon Moffat sent me items from her natural line of luxury skin care and while I love everything I’ve tried, I spray The Mist on everything—my airplane seat, my hotel room (I know, germaphobe much?). I even used it on my pillows before bed… especially when I’ve got the snivels.”
6. Beauty7 II Heated Eyelash Curler
To give lashes a natural-looking curl (you know, with none of those weird, right-angles), press the wand to the base of the lashes for 10-15 seconds. And don’t worry, it won’t burn, singe or crimp them. Just remember to use this curler after applying mascara. “Applying wet mascara to curled lashes wilts them. Once you get past the fear of holding something warm to your eyes, you’ll never go back to the traditional kind. The beauty of this one is that you can re-curl mascara-coated lashes safely without damaging them.”
