The After shot of my kitchen that was shown on Apartment Therapy.
A while back my kitchen renovation was chosen by Apartment Therapy for their Before & After series (click here to view). I’ll admit, I was chuffed by the positive responses. The one thing I noticed, was that many of the comments were requesting to see more images (Apartment Therapy only allows two photos). So, I am happily obliging with a post dedicated to my kitchen reno. I hope you all love it as much as we do!
BEFORE
The kitchen was dark (even with the sliding door), had beige linoleum flooring, pale blue walls, white ceramic countertops and barn-board cupboards. That dark alcove in the left corner housed the washer and dryer, which we moved to the basement.
Another view of the kitchen (don’t you love the plastic on the basement doorway?)
The fridge’s original home and exposed brick that we eventually covered up…for good reason!
AFTER
Linoleum was swapped out for cork flooring (which we love with two young kids; it’s easy to clean and softer than tile on their tushies), white high-gloss cabinets were installed on this side of the kitchen, along with a new 36-inch stove and long marble backsplash.
The stove gets decorated with a Kate Spade tea towel, and a silver coffeepot (we’re coffee-lovers in this household).
The fridge finds a new location in the alcove that originally held the washer and dryer. Ikea installed custom-built cabinetry around it to maximize storage and space. More light is also let in by the new, 8-foot sliding door (it used to be 6-foot).
The entryway to the basement receives a face-lift with a painted restaurant door from the ReStore, where building supplies are donated and purchase proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity.
The much-used mini island where my girls like to bake and draw. The art above the island is from Rui Pimenta. Stools and light are IKEA. We contrasted our white high gloss cabinets with a wood finish on this side of kitchen.
