I admit that after becoming a mom, my bag collection took a turn for the worse and my cute, pocket-sized purses and over-sized carry-alls became impractical. I began accumulating large (and extra-wide) bags that could fit diapers, wipes, a set of spare clothes, bottles, snacks and toys. And while I had a few in rotation, I never really fell in love with any one of them.
Now that my kids are older (age 7 and 2) my bag-buzz has returned. I’ve reached a point where I no longer need the gazillion pockets, but I still need room for a bit of mine, and a bit of theirs. Here’s where my new fave, the two-pocket tote bag, comes in.
THE DESIGN: It’s roomy enough to fit (and find!) my laptop and bottle of water when I’m running around, plus it can hold snacks, facial tissue packs and an iPad/iPod. It looks streamlined, and the smaller pocket is perfect to hold my wallet, phone and keys.
THE COLOUR: While pops of colour are great, sometimes it doesn’t always work with what your wearing. Come on. It’s true. So if you’re practical like me, basic black is always a winner. (But, I’ve provided some bolder options below).
THE FABRIC: Leather is a true classic, wears well and always looks better with age.
